How do I verify my email?

When creating an account on SpotMe, each user must undergo an identity verification process, including official identification, phone number, and email. These steps contribute to making our community safer.

We will automatically send an email to the address you provided when you created your profile. You should open it and follow the steps to verify the email.

If you can't find the verification email, you can check your spam folder or request a new one as follows:

  1. In your profile, you can see the email you registered.
  2. Click "Resend Verification Email."
  3. Once you've received the email, follow the steps to verify your account.

How do I verify my phone number?

When you register on SpotMe, we will ask for your phone number to verify your identity and ensure the entire community's safety.

SpotMe uses your number to send you an SMS when you have a new message on your profile or, if you are a Host, to receive a message when there is a rental request for your listings.

If you don't receive the verification SMS, you can request it again as follows:

  1. Visit your profile.
  2. Add your phone number.
  3. Click "Verify Phone Number."
  4. Wait for the verification code to arrive via SMS and enter it on the site.
  5. Click to verify again.

How do I verify my official ID?

During the verification process, we will ask for a photo of an official identification, which will help us confirm the identity of all our users, Renters and Hosts. We use state-of-the-art technology employed by top companies for this procedure.

The required identification can be a passport or voter ID (INE).

Remember that we will not share your personal information with anyone; it will solely be used to validate your profile.


Stripe Security

Stripe is a PCI-compliant payment gateway using cutting-edge tools and practices to ensure security and trust. Thousands of businesses worldwide, such as Amazon and Facebook, use it. Using Stripe, SpotMe does not store personal information on our platform.


How to report a user?

If you believe that a user of the SpotMe platform is misusing our service, please let us know. You can do so by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Messages section in your Profile.
  2. Click on the conversation with the user you want to report.
  3. Next to the user's name, at the top, click "Report."
  4. Select the reason for your report.
  5. Complete the process by clicking "Report."

We appreciate your contribution to making SpotMe a safer community.


How to report a listing?

If you notice that one of the listings published on our platform does not comply with SpotMe's Terms of Service, you can report it. Reasons for reporting include but are not limited to the description not matching the images, unreliable information, or any other suspicious detail. This helps us and the entire community of Renters and Hosts.

  2. Scroll down to the "Security and Support" section.
  3. At the bottom, click "Report this listing."
  4. Provide a detailed explanation of the reason for your report.
  5. By clicking "Submit," we will receive your report anonymously.

We will review your report and take appropriate action if necessary. We greatly appreciate your help; it allows us to keep our platform secure and reliable.


How do we protect Renters?

At SpotMe, the safety of the community is our number one priority. We offer various policies and implement different measures so that all members feel safe and confident leaving their belongings in the spots they book through our platform.


Verification Processes

To ensure the well-being of all our users, both Renters and Hosts, we have thorough identity verification controls, including email and phone number verification. You must complete these three requirements to send messages or post a listing on SpotMe.


Messages

As a Renter, you can send messages to any Host before requesting a reservation for a spot; this facilitates smooth communication, answers any doubts, and ensures that the space is a good fit for storing your belongings.

Click "Contact Host" to send a message once you select the storage you're interested in.


Terms of Service

We prioritize having a harmonious community where there is trust and security between Renters and Hosts in every transaction. For this reason, we have Terms of Service, which protect all users.


Payment Schedule

Hosts receive the corresponding payment for the month's rent 30 days after Renters retrieve their belongings. This way, we protect Renters' belongings at all times.


How do we create a safe environment at SpotMe?

We recommend that all Hosts check the profiles of potential Renters before approving booking requests. You can learn more about each applicant by reading their biography or reviews. If a Renter has not been verified, you can request that they undergo this process.


Credit Card Security

One of our top priorities is always to keep your confidential information safe. Therefore, SpotMe does not store your payment information in transactions. We use Stripe,  a secure, encrypted, and PCI-compliant gateway that stores this data outside of SpotMe.


Payment Protection for Hosts

We have a payment protection process on our platform to support all our hosts. This process entails ensuring payment to Hosts in the unlikely event that a Renter fails to pay. The protection applies as long as the Renter's items remain in the accommodation and protects you for a maximum of two months. Refer to our Terms of Service for more information.


Why can't I use cash, checks, or a different payment platform?

SpotMe is not your typical classified ads site. We work to connect Hosts with Renters and protect both parties. We can handle payment issues, abandoned items in rental accommodations, and users who violate our Terms of Service.

Hosts do not need to worry about requesting payments; they only need to provide their bank account details and await the deposit notification. Renters can input their credit card details, and automatic charges will be made during the rental period.


What should I do if someone asks me to make payments or transactions outside SpotMe?

Making or receiving payments outside of the SpotMe platform is not secure. Additionally, doing so negates the protections outlined in our Terms of Service and the Host and Renter Guarantee.

If someone on our platform asks you to make or receive a payment outside of SpotMe, we strongly advise against it.

We take the security of all community members seriously and strive to create a secure platform to eliminate payment issues other platforms have.

We encourage you to report any member who requests payment or receipt of payment outside of SpotMe, whether by check, cash, transfer, or any other available service. We will investigate and take necessary measures to prevent it from happening again.
