Host FAQ
How do I set up My Profile?
Setting up your profile is the first step to becoming a Host, as potential Renters will use it to get to know you. You've created a great profile if Renters like your profile and feel confident safely storing their items in your space.
A good profile should include your photo and a welcoming bio for Renters.
Where can I add my payment method?
Hosts receive payments directly in their bank accounts through Stripe, our top-notch encrypted payment gateway. In the "Bank Account" section, click "Connect Bank Account" to start using Stripe and receive your payments.
SpotMe will not store any payment information on the platform.
How do I create my first listing?
Once your verification process is complete and your account is active, click "List Your Spot" at the top right corner to get started.
Follow all the steps, be very descriptive about your space, and upload the best photos of it. We will review it, and once it is approved, you can start generating passive income with your available space.
How do I expedite the process?
Here are some tips to help you rent out your space more quickly.
- 1Join our Facebook group, where a community of Hosts shares valuable tips.
- Share your listing on your social networks or other classified services.
- Respond quickly to messages or booking requests you receive on SpotMe.
How do I know if someone is interested in my spot?
If a Renter makes a booking request, you'll receive an email and SMS on your phone. This way, you won't miss any updates and can start earning money as quickly as possible.
What do I do when a Renter sends a reservation request?
Once you receive the request, you'll have 24 hours to approve or reject it. To review the request and the Renter in detail, go to the "Spots" section and see what items will be stored in your space.
If not approved within 24 hours, the request will be automatically rejected.
How does the Renter pay?
Once you approve a reservation request, the Renter will be charged for the first month. Every 30 days, the SpotMe platform will automatically charge to ensure a complete payment period is covered.
How do I receive the payment made by the Renter?
The SpotMe platform will automatically charge the Renter each month. To receive the payment, you will need to provide us with your bank details.
Are reservations on a monthly basis?
Yes. All bookings made on SpotMe last 30 days.
If you need the Renter to move out, you must give notice at least 30 days in advance.
How am I protected?
Your safety and peace of mind are our priority. All payments are protected, community members must undergo an identity verification process, and we have Terms of Service designed to protect you.
Do I need to share my phone number or address?
No. We recommend communicating with Renters only through our platform.
Your address will be shared with the Renter through us once you approve their reservation request, not before.
Do not share your address, phone number, email, or other personal information.
Host processing fee
SpotMe charges a small commission on each monthly rental payment. This allows us to support and maintain our platform so that we can continue providing you with the best service.
How payment processing works
We handle the billing process for you. You'll only receive payments directly into the bank account you specify.
This process helps ensure the security of your money and personal data, which is not shared with anyone.
You'll be paid every 30 days, and the Renter will be automatically charged. This also ensures that rentals are secure if a Renter needs to vacate your space before the agreed-upon time.
Handling difficult situations
Although such situations are uncommon, certain complicated events may arise for Hosts or Renters. At SpotMe, it's our priority to help you feel safe and supported; we've got your back. Don't hesitate to contact our Customer Support team if a situation requires our attention.
Who can be a SpotMe Host?
Anyone with available space who wants to generate passive income can be a Host. These spaces can be warehouses, rooms, basements, attics, parking spaces, or any other place where items can be stored.
How do I generate passive income as a Host?
You can begin earning income if you have space available and authorization to rent it out.
The process is straightforward: create an account on SpotMe, list your spot, wait for a Renter to send a request, approve it when it arrives, and earn more money.
Do I have to pay to list my space?
No. SpotMe is a completely free platform where you can earn passive income without spending money.
Before posting your listing
Once you finish setting up your profile and our team validates it, you can start posting your listings.
- Complete your Profile, including a good profile photo, your name, and a welcoming message for Renters. This helps them feel more secure storing their items with you.
- Add your bank account with Stripe. It's our secure payment gateway; with it, we can transfer money to you easily month after month.
After posting your listing
Once you finish creating your listing, SpotMe will review it to ensure it's ready to be rented.
Once approved, your rental space will be visible to everyone on the SpotMe platform.
Potential Renters can start sending you messages with questions about your space or submit reservation requests.
Tips to get reservations faster
You can control the ranking where your listing appears in SpotMe search results. The better your spot's ranking, the faster it will be rented.
Follow these tips to rank better on SpotMe:
Respond to messages quickly.
Each Host is assigned a "Response Score" based on how quickly they respond to messages from Renters. Those who do not respond promptly or do not respond significantly drop in search results.
Use the price recommended by SpotMe.
We spend a lot of time evaluating the numbers, so you don't have to.
When posting a listing, we'll recommend a price based on many variables, such as the area, the size of the space, the price of other spots and much more.
Upload lots of photos of the space.
A good spot can be detected within seconds based on photos. Take advantage of all possible angles to showcase the benefits of storing items in your space.
Profile photo and biography.
Use a great profile photo and a well-written biography to show Renters they can trust you to store their items.
First-month discount.
Encourage Renters to choose your storage solution by offering them a discount for the first month. This option is available from the moment you create your listing.
You'll still be paid the total price if the Renter stays less than 2 months.
Use recommendations and reviews to your advantage.
After a Renter completes their reservation, ask them to recommend you as a Host.
