How to post an ad?

Posting an ad on SpotMe is the first step to making money with a space you don't use. To ensure a positive experience for the SpotMe community, we ask questions about your spot and manually review each ad before it is visible on the site.


Step by step:

  1. Click "Become a Host" at the top right of the SpotMe homepage.
  2. Enter "Upload Spot."
  3. Read our notices and fill out all required information.
  4. Let us know what type of space best describes your spot and if you can accommodate a vehicle.
  5. Search your address in the search bar or allow the browser to use your current location. Potential renters will not see your address until you approve a reservation request.
  6. Make sure to move the map pin to the correct location.
  7. Now, describe your accommodation in detail and provide all the information that may be useful to your Renter.
  8. Add the exact size of your rental space. Use a measuring tape.
  9. Inform potential renters when and how often they can access their belongings.
  10. Is there a specific time of day to receive your Renter? Share this information here.
  11. You can also offer a discount for the first month to rent your space faster.
  12. The Smart Pricing tool can help attract more visits to your ad. You can also include a minimum you are willing to receive.
  13. Add all the photos of your spot. Make sure to have several shots of the empty space from different angles.
  14. Before finalizing, review all the details, and once you're sure they're correct, conclude the process.


How do I measure my spot?

One of the most critical details for your ad is to provide the exact dimensions of the spot. When your ad shows the precise length and width, potential Renters will know what can fit in the space.

Spots can be easily measured with a tape measure or through an application on your phone:

  • Measure on iOS
  • AR Plan 3D Ruler on Android

Personalizing my welcome message

A welcome message is an automatic way to contact your Renter after you have approved their reservation and makes it easier for you to coordinate the move with them.


How do I personalize my welcome message?

  1. Go to the Spots section in your Profile and find the ad where you wish to personalize the welcome message.
  2. Click on "Edit."
  3. Click "Welcome Message."
  4. Write the message you want to share in the allotted space.
  5. Click "Save."

Tip: Personalize your welcome message for every ad. This is an excellent way to respond quickly to your new Renter.



Pricing for my Spot

When creating an ad, we can help you with a suggested price based on your location and the demand for storage solutions in your area. SpotMe strives to provide reasonable alternatives to renters. We advise you to use our recommended price.


Our Recommended Price

To expedite the reservation of your spot, you can also enable our Smart Pricing feature, which automatically adjusts the price based on the current demand from renters in your area. Set a minimum price you feel comfortable with and let this tool do the rest.



Smart Pricing

You can generate substantial profits using this tool, which adjusts according to the Renter's demand. To use this feature, you must:

  1. Find your spot in your Profile.
  2. Click "Edit."
  3. In the "Price" section, click "Edit."
  4. Activate "Smart Pricing."
  5. Set the minimum price you will accept and start earning income.

This tool aims to draw in new reservations. Additionally, you can manually adjust the price whenever you want, as long as your spot is not reserved at that time.



First Month Discount

This is a welcome promotion. Just check the box to allow Renters to get a discount on their first month's rent. You will still be paid the full price if the Renter uses the space for less than two months.



Create a quality ad

By optimizing your advertisement, you'll draw more interest and enhance the likelihood of a reservation. We have provided some tips for making your ads more attractive.


First impressions are always memorable. Follow these tips:

  • Please use your official first and last name. Renters will only see your last name after you accept a reservation request.
  • Write why you are on SpotMe in your description. You can also share more about yourself, like your interests or hobbies.
  • Use a real photo of yourself for the Profile. Renters want to meet the person who will be their Host.
  • Upload several high-quality photos with good lighting. Ads with at least 4 photos are more likely to be reserved.
  • Photos are to show your spot and should not include any contact information. Make sure to take good photos without glare or blur.
  • Clean your space. Your photos will be more pleasant and can attract more attention to your ad.


Listing Review Process

Before your ad is officially published on SpotMe, it will go through a quick review process to ensure that our Hosts have suitable ads for potential Renters.

To ensure that your ad is approved quickly, we recommend:

  • The storage space must be your own, or you must have permission to rent it out.
  • The photos, description, type of space, and features must match your spot.
  • The description should include more details about your spot and what Renters can expect.
  • Include as many photos as possible and ensure they have good lighting.
  • Once your ad is approved, you will see it move from "Pending Review" to "Published." Now, you are ready to start earning money with SpotMe.


Promoting my listing

Once your spot is published, it will be visible to everyone on SpotMe. Potential renters can see it from that moment on, and you can also promote it elsewhere.

Here are some tips:

  • Share your ad on your social networks.
  • Include your ad on classified ad platforms.
  • Word-of-mouth recommendation among friends and family is always a good idea.

Renter pre-approval

Before a potential Renter sends a reservation request for your spot, they may contact you with any questions.

If you consider the Renter a good fit for your space, you can grant pre-approval by clicking the corresponding button.

Your Renter will receive a pre-approval message with a "Book" button to take them directly to your listing.



What do you do when a Renter asks to visit your spot before booking?

To guarantee the safety of both parties this is not possible.

Before meeting in person, please approve the reservation through SpotMe. Your exact address remains hidden until you accept the request, as it is crucial for the community to maintain your security.



Editing a listing

If your listing is not booked yet, you can change the price, add new photos, and make other modifications directly from the "Spots" section.


To edit your listing:

  1. Go to the "Spots" section in your SpotMe profile
  2. Find the spot you want to update from the Active, Inactive, or Drafts tabs.
  3. Click "Edit."
  4. Select the section you want to modify and click on it.
  5. After making the changes, save them.


Editing a booked listing

Listings can be edited anytime as long as you don't have an active reservation. Once an active reservation has ended, you can only change features like address, price, and description. However, there are some alternatives if needed.

If you want to change details like the price but keep your current Renter, you can:

  1. Communicate the desired changes and receive approval from your Renter.
  2. Create a new listing for your spot.
  3. Ask your Renter to cancel the current reservation and request the new listing.

Another option is to contact SpotMe Customer Support:

  1. Communicate the desired changes to your Renter through our platform and receive their approval.
  2. Contact Customer Support by submitting a form with the reservation information and the changes you want to make.


What will a Renter store in my spot?

As a Host, you can always see what a Renter wants to store in the reservation request. If there are any items you would not like to store, you can reject the reservation.

How to see what a Renter wants to store:

  1. Go to the "Spots" section in your SpotMe profile.
  2. Find the pending reservation.
  3. Click "View" at the bottom.
  4. You can see what the Renter wants to store in your space.
  5. If the text is abbreviated, click "View."

Please read the list of restricted items in our Terms of Service and be as specific as possible in your listing description.



How much time do I have to approve a reservation request?

Hosts have 24 hours to respond to a reservation request. If more than 24 hours pass without a response, the reservation will be automatically rejected, and emails will be sent to notify both the Host and the Renter.

Review all requests in the Spots section.



How do I duplicate my listing?

Do you have a large space for rent? You can turn it into smaller listings to increase your earnings.


How to duplicate your listing:

  1. Visit the "Spots" section.
  2. Find the listing you want to duplicate.
  3. Click on "Duplicate" below the description.

Remove the "Private Space" message in the "Features" section of your listing to ensure future renters know the space is shared. Now, you can earn more with SpotMe!



How do I deactivate or delete my listing?

We understand that plans can change, and you may want to remove your listing from our platform. We recommend deactivating your listing only if you decide to reactivate it later. Deleting a listing is permanent and cannot be undone.


To deactivate or delete a listing:

  1. Go to the "Spots" section.
  2. Find the listing you want to deactivate or delete.
  3. Click on "Deactivate" or "Delete."
  4. Select a reason for deactivating or deleting.
  5. Click "Confirm."

To find a deactivated listing:

  1. Go to the ""Spots"" section.
  2. In the left-hand menu, select "Deactivated."
  3. Click ""Reactivate"" in the listing whenever you are ready to rent your space again.


What do I do when a reservation request expires?

If you intended to approve a reservation request, but it expired before you could, don't worry; we understand unforeseen circumstances can arise. You can still communicate with the potential Renter to see the reservation through. If they still need to find another spot, they can request the reservation and start the process again.



How do I advertise large spaces?

If you have an unused outdoor space ready to rent on SpotMe, we suggest dividing it into smaller listings. This will allow you to earn more and increase the likelihood of renting your spot. Make sure to specify in your listing descriptions that it is a shared space.
